Other Airborne Non-Emergency Signals
Turn Signal
If the glider can not communicate via the radio, he/she can communicate a right turn by maneuvering the glider to the left and gently pulling the tow plane tail to the left, moving the tow plane nose to the right. A left turn is signaled using the opposite maneuver.
Speed Up
The glider can signal the tow plane to speed up by rocking the glider wings while directly behind the tow plane. When receiving the speed up signal, accelerate in increments of 5 knots awaiting another signal.
Decrease Speed
The glider can signal the tow plane to decrease speed by fishtailing the glider while directly behind the tow plane. When receiving the decrease speed signal, decelerate in increments of 5 knots awaiting another signal.
